3 Truths About Leaders…

DO I NEED TO LEARN ALL THIS?
No, not if you are content to follow…. 
Leading is not being branded nor a stud on stage……we covered that and other leadership tips in the previous post.
I found the 10 truths about leadership in James M. Kouzes and Barry Z. Posner’s book, “The Truth About Leadership,” not just valuable but profound.
Let’s face it, we cannot lead where we will not go……and we can’t go some place if we don’t know how to get there.
I covered 3 of the 10 Truths about leadership, leadership attributes……here is my spin and application on the other 7……
Might want to score yourself 1-10 on the following points……I did and I help my teammates do the same thing……not as a judgement but as a starting point.
Truth 4 is Focusing on the Future Sets Leaders Apart.
People know where they are……you’ve got to see the future and paint vivid pictures…..Think and Grow Rich‘s Napoleon Hill learned ‘imagination is the only bridge to real enthusiasm.’ Without that we are dead in the water……..and when you talk future, make sure you link it to weekly and daily actions…….this is a network marketing skill. Leaders like Success Coach Kathy Zimmer get that…..inspire a future then walk people step by step through what to do daily.
Truth 5 is You Can’t Do It Alone 
There is an old saying that ‘it’s lonely at the top’……it’s a load of crap.
The truth is no one makes it to the top alone, no one makes it without a true master mind alliance. Leaders get this…..not all top money earners……and that is a big, big problem.
So sad.
Most people in MLM who are making good to great money never made that kind of dough before.
Ego.
Ut-Oh.
It’s not about what you are making, it’s about what you are leaving on the table. The only way to maximize profit for everyone is harmony in the relationships…..ego must go and realizing by EVERYONE that no one would be making anything if it wasn’t for EVERYONE…..is a great first step towards harmony…..leader’s take this step over and over.
Get constructive feedback and be more concerned with what is right ……not who is right.
Stay away from ALL GOSSIP…..and model that/
Truth 6 is Trust Rules.
They must trust you and we’ve gone over Covey’s book, The Speed of Trust, in a 5 part series before……and Kathy Zimmer’s recent post about improving yourself…..is brilliant.
See, she ‘get’s it’……she knows the best way to improve the team is to improve yourself….yes…..but Kathy gets the next level of that.
Next level? A leadership attribute :::::>Modeling.
Trust goes up when the team sees you working on you instead of ‘going to the whip’ and telling them what they need to do.
Truth 7 is Challenge Is the Crucible for Greatness.
They are change agents……..but wait……you must know this first…….and this ain’t in the book.
MLMers sometimes promote what they think are cool ideas for change, acceleration to the group…..DO NOT DO THAT>>>>YET
Come across a cool idea or way to get more names……
Test before testimony.
Do not let your group be the guinea pigs……
Do it yourself…..then, when you find some stuff that works…..do it with them.
Test before testimony……then promote change.
You must be able to say, “yes, this works,” and mean it.
Truth 8 is You Either Lead by Example or You Don’t Lead at All
In the end…..reps will do what you do not what you say.
Get on the phone 3 hours a day to new prospects for 90 days and you’ll never have to give a motivational speech or listen to an excuse.
Model.
The time to stop talking and start walking?
Now. 
Got a great guy, had some great successes…….calls me daily about who is not doing what.
Hasn’t sponsored anyone personally in 7 weeks.
End of story.
Truth 9 is the Best Leaders Are the Best Learners
They learn and keep learning……Faye is a great example of that ……of this crucial leadership tip……..and going over her blog for 23 weeks of entries…..shows what real leadership is about…learning, applyng and sharing…..with just a ‘touch’ of vulnerability and a lot of humility….who would not want to follow.
Instead of applying pressure on others, she models ……
“When I am through learning……I am through”…..Wooden
Share, don’t tell…..and it inspires folks on 2 levels.
1. The material……2. They know you are committed to improving the team by example.
Truth 10 is Leadership Is an Affair of the Heart
Passion.
The Ancient Greeks asked 1 question when someone died.
“Did they have passion?”
An entire life defined by the answer.
Leaders have passion…..
Could be for:
Plan
Product
Helping others
Financial freedom
Does not matter…….if it is in your heart…..and shows authentically…..people will follow.
Here are 5 tips……that if you follow daily……you’ll hit most of these 10 leadership truths daily. 
Score yourself 1-20 on each of these……don’t judge yourself, just consider it a starting point and focus on the one you scored the lowest on the first week.
1. Model the way….are you a leading by example leader ….. a ‘going to the whip’ or ‘relationship’ leader? [whip and relationshippers are doomed with the example.
2. Inspire a shared vision…..your shared vision should be their vision. Do you know thier goals?
3. Challenge the process….with skills and practicing them with folks.
4. Enable others to act….by setting up a schedule with them
5. Encourage the heart by working with, not telling what to do.

Week 21 – The Real Secret of Power?

Do you know what is the real secret of power? It is the consciousness of power, because whatever we become conscious of, is invariably manifested in the objective world, is brought forth into intangible expression. The source of this power is the Universal Mind, from which all things proceed, and which is one and indivisible. This power is being manifested through the individual, each individual is a channel whereby this energy is being differentiated in form.
We may connect with this Omnipotence by our ability to think or our ability to act on this Universal Energy, and what we think is what is produced or created in the objective world. By becoming conscious of our Unity with the source of all power, we may eliminate imperfect conditions. One of the distinctive characteristics of the Master Mind is the ability to think BIG thoughts, to hold ideas large enough to counteract and destroy all petty and annoying obstacles.
Everything that we hold in our consciousness for any length of time becomes impressed upon our subconsciousness and so becomes a pattern which the creative energy will wave into our life and environment. This is the secret of the wonderful power of prayer.
As soon as we become conscious of the inexhaustible power in the world within, we begin to draw on this power and apply and develop the greater possibilities, because whatever we become conscious of, is invariably manifested in the objective world. The result of this discovery is nothing less marvelous, and means that mind is extraordinary in quality, and contains possibilities unlimited. To become conscious of this power is to become a “live wire”.
We bring ourselves any condition by creating the corresponding conditions in our consciousness. In this way conditions are produced and we find that our lives are simply the reflection of our predominant thoughts, our mental attitude. This mental attitude is our personality and is composed of the thoughts which we have been creating in our own mind.
It is no easy matter to change the mental attitude, but by persistent effort it may be accomplished; the mental attitude is patterned after the mental pictures which have been photographed on the brain; we simply replace all with positive pictures and continue to hold the pictures in mind until positive and desired results are obtained. Thus do not hesitate to aspire to the highest possible attainments in anything you may undertake.
Week 20 – Spiritual Wealth has no Value?

Power depends upon the condition of recognition and use. Recognition means consciousness. By thinking, we become conscious of power. Thus, correct scientific thinking is the true business of life. It is the ability to adjust our thought processes to the will of the Universal. In other words, to cooperate with Natural laws. This is accomplished by securing a perfect understanding of the principles, forces, methods and combinations of mind.

Thinking is the true business of life, power is the result. We are at all time dealing with the magical power of thought and consciousness. This power has been placed within our control!
What is the cause of all lack, limitation, disease and discord in the world? It is due to the operation of exactly the same law, the law operates relentlessly and is continually bringing about conditions in correspondence with the thought which originated or created them. Thus it is utmost important that we are fully aware of the quality of our thought. Because what we do depends upon what we are and what we are depends upon what we think.
With our spiritual wealth, unless we recognize it and use it, it will have no value. The one and only condition of spiritual power is use or recognition. Without spirit, we would be nothing. The spirit of us is – us. When we begin to perceive that the essence of the Universal is within us – is us – we begin to do things; we begin to feel our power. It is this power which will enable us to plan fearlessly and to execute masterfully.
We must recognize this powerful inner world within, include it is our consciousness, then we will find this “Kingdom of heaven” within us. This power of thought, if understood and correctly used, is the greatest labor-saving device ever dreamed of. This power is the secret of all inspiration, all genius.
Another factor we need to bring into perspective is emotions. An intellectual understanding will be of no assistance; the emotions must be brought into action. We can live more abundantly every time we breathe, if we consciously breathe with that intention. We breathe this life, love and spirit.

We must “be” before we can “do” and we can “do” only to the extent to which we “are,” and so what we do will necessarily coincide with what we “are” and what we are depends upon what we “think.” We are free to use this marvelous creative power of thought, but we must take the consequences. Think positive constructive thought that is manifested in a constructive manner.
Our permanent well-being will be best conserved by a conscious cooperation with the continuous forward movement of the Great Whole.
Week 19 – Fear is a Powerful Form of Thought?

Week 19 – Be bigger than your fear! Fear is a powerful form of thought. It paralyzes the nerve centers, thus affecting blood circulation which, in turn, paralyzes the muscular system, so that fear affects the entire being, body, brain and nerve, physical, mental and muscular. The way to overcome fear is to be conscious of power.
Week 18 – What is the Degree of Intelligence we Manifest?

Week 18 – again this week’s focus is still around thought. What is it that we give? Thought. Thought is a substance in equilibrium which is constantly being differentiated in form by which we think.
It is by the degree of intelligence that one manifest that is how the difference in individual lives is measured. But first we need to recognize the self as an individualization of the Universal Intelligence. It is this law which the individual may control other forms of intelligence.
Creative power originates in the Universal. Thus by means of the individual the Universe creates form. And the link between the individual and the Universal is thought. The Law of Love is the principle by which the means of existence is carried into effect. This principle is brought into expression by the law of growth.
Upon what condition does the law of growth depend? Upon reciprocal action. The individual is complete at all times and this makes it possible to receive only as we give. Again, we give thought. We receive what we think.
Week 17 – Conscious Continuous Concentration?

Week 17 is a great week. I realized that in the twenty first century in practice I make for myself “graven images” of “Wealth”, “Power”, “Fashion”, “Customs” and “Conventionality”. I ‘fall down” before them and worship them. I concentrate on them and they are thereby externalized in my life!
I am accustomed to looking at the Universe with colored lens of five senses. I must focus on spiritual insight which requires a quickening of the vibrations of the Mind and is only secured when the mind is continuously concentrated in a given direction.
Desire is largely subconscious. And by conscious concentration I arouse my subconscious mind and bring into action in a direction that is made to serve me for any purpose. I am not the average person who has no focus and always crying ‘to have” and never the cry “to be”. I must first find the “kingdom” before I can have the “things added”.
All mental discovery and attainment are the result of desire plus concentration; desire is the strongest mode of action; the more persistent the desire, the more authoritative the revelation. Desire added to concentration will wrench any secret from nature. The intensity of one moment’s earnest concentration and the intense longing to become and forced effort; it will unfasten the prison bars of unbelief, weakness, impotence and self-belittlement, and I will come into a realization of the joy of overcoming.
I realized the mind is an engine whose power is undreamed; thought is an omni-working power. It is the ruler and creator of all form and all events occurring in form. Vibration is the action of thought; it is vibration which reaches out and attracts the material necessary to construct and build. Concentrate on matters of importance, the intuitive power will be set in operation. Intuition often solves problems that are beyond the grasp of the reasoning power. Great minds seek solitude frequently to cultivate intuition.
My strength is determined by my mental attitude. I adopt a true method of concentration, thus I become so intensely identified with the object of my thought that I am conscious of nothing else. Then invisible force will set in motion which irresistibly bring about conditions in correspondence with my thought.
Week 16 – A Higher Law Controls All Other Laws?

Week 16, understanding the law of periodicity will enable us to understand that all lives have periods of birth, growth, fruitage and decline. These periods are governed by the Septimal Law. Through an understanding and conscious operation of spiritual laws, I can convert every seeming difficulty into a blessing.
Wealth depends upon the understanding of the creative nature of thought. It consists of all useful and agreeable things which possess exchange value. It is a product of labor. This exchange value makes it a medium for securing the things of real value whereby our ideals may be realized. Therefore, wealth should never be desired as an end, but simply as a means of accomplishing an end.
The successful businessman is more often than not an idealist and is every striving for higher and higher standards. Premature wealth is but the forerunner of humiliation and disaster, because we cannot permanently retain anything which we do not merit or which we have not earned. By consciously realizing the conditions which we desire to see manifested in our lives, we can control our own fate. Thinking therefore is the great business of life! Because thought is spiritual and therefore creative.
Good and eveil are not entities, they are simply words which we use to indicate the result of our actions, and these actions are in turn predetermined by the character of our thought. If our thought is constructive and harmonious we manifest good; if it is destructive and discordant we manifest evil. Thus the process to visualize a different environment is simply to hold the ideal in minf, until your vision has been made real.
What we think determines the quality of mind, and that the quality of mind in turn determines our ability and mental capacity. The improvement in our ability will naturally be followed by increase in attainment and a greater control of circumstances.
If I wish to bring about the realization of any desire, I form a mental picture of success in my mind, by consciously visualizing my desire; in this way I will be compelling success, I will be externalizing it in my life by scientific methods.
This week I realized the important fact that harmony and happiness are states of consciousness and do not depend upon the possession of things. So if I desire material possession of any kind my chief concern should be to acquire the mental attitude which will bring about the result desired. When I can do this I shall have found the “Truth” which makes me “free” from every lack or limitation of any kind.
